The Balvenie is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in the Speyside region of northern Scotland. It is one of three distilleries on William Grant's Dufftown site, along with Glenfiddich (the first established) and Kininvie (the most recent).The distillery was founded in 1892, next door to Glenfiddich, partly to meet the demands of a customer inherited from Glenlivet (which had been damaged by fire), and partly to prevent the establishment of a rival distillery on the land, which would then share the precious water supply.
